Approach
Writing coaches come in many forms – from rulebook wielders to butt-kickers and big motivational speakers.
I’m neither of those, preferring to start with kindness and grace towards my raw material – you. (And your team, if they’ll be joining you).
Firstly, I partner with clients to recognise that their people are experts in their field. This expertise is a massive part of writing well. Next, we’ll hone in on participants’ individual writing challenges and give them specific tools to solve these. For example:
- Main point buried in detail – this problem can usually be cleared with a refresher on effective structure, sentence grammar and reduced jargon.
- Need to be more persuasive – usually, this issue can be resolved through better audience analysis, better-quality evidence and a refresher on classic persuasive cues.
If you’re planning a tailored in-house workshop for your team, I’ll put together the frameworks, techniques and industry-wide examples to suit. The group will do a mix of solo, pair and group exercises, and receive feedback throughout.
And if you prefer to work through the self-guided online courses, you’ll receive a set of tools that I’ve found work best for each scenario. You’ll get a real-life writing task for each learning module, and receive written feedback on your work.

Introducing Stephanie
Hi there! I'm Stephanie, an experienced business writer and coach who has developed a sound method of teaching concise, jargon-free writing that tells the story and sets clear reader expectations. My career began in government and lifestyle publishing before I realised my passion for helping others, moving into business writing and coaching in the early 2000s. You can find my public workshops at The University of Sydney’s Centre for Continuing Education, where I've worked since 2006. Or ask about my customised writing workshops, for sectors including banking, accounting, universities, health, engineering, architecture and media.
When not presenting, I’m also partner at Sydney creative agency, The Offices, where I oversee day-to-day proposal writing, content marketing and a range of corporate client writing projects.
